Neuroscience ProgramWelcome
The Neuroscience Program at Washington and Lee is a truly interdisciplinary major (B.S.) that integrates faculty and courses in biology, chemistry and psychology. The discipline of neuroscience is dedicated to understanding the cells that make up the nervous system including their interactions with each other and the outside world. Necessarily, this leads to a broad discipline bridging molecules and mental function. The requirements for the Neuroscience major are varied but include individualized research with a member of the neuroscience faculty. These research experiences are not "programmed" labs. Instead, they are real investigations into the basic science of the brain and often lead to publications and presentations at professional meetings. Graduates in Neuroscience follow a variety of careers and many enter research or medical fields.
