Description of the program:

At Washington and Lee:

During the Winter term preceding the trip, you will meet with the French native assistant twice a month for conversation practice. In addition, it is highly recommended that you take a course in French, at your current level, during the Winter semester.

In Nice:

- Intensive language classes at France-Langue. Each students gets at least three hours (four in Fren 172) per day of instruction in a group of 8 to 12 people. Lessons include the explanation and practice of grammar structures, and communicative exercises aimed at expanding vocabulary and developing the students’ competence in French.

- Excursions to local places of interest (mandatory)

- Opportunities to explore on your own

- Housing with a French family (room, breakfast and one meal).

In Paris:

- Tours of various neighborhoods in the city

- Visits of historical monuments and museums in Paris and its surroundings

- Attendance to a play

- Lodging in a French hotel

While in Paris, students will keep a journal to record their experiences and their impressions.

Evaluation:

Your performance will be evaluated by France-Langue through weekly assessments and a final exam. That grade will constitute 70% of your grade for the course. The remaining 30% will be assessed by the accompanying professor, and based on your participation in the group outings, your journal and a final interview.
